What "cleaning" means under the rules: essential light cleaning

The government's Support at Home service list describes the cleaning covered by domestic assistance as "Essential light cleaning (e.g., mopping, vacuuming, washing dishes)". The category exists to help older people "keep their home in a liveable state" — not to make it immaculate.

✅ In scope

Mopping, sweeping and vacuuming; washing dishes and wiping benches; bathroom cleaning; bed making and linen changes; laundry and ironing; rubbish and tidying; and the inside of windows reachable from the floor. Shopping assistance is included too.

❌ Out of scope

The service list names these expressly: carpet cleaning, pest control, dry cleaning, pet care, and the cost of the goods themselves. Also excluded: spring cleans, degreasing ovens and rangehoods, ladder work on outside windows, and moving heavy furniture.

  3. Job created & worker matched
  4. Worker books the time with the family
