The government sets aside a separate pot — up to $15,000, on top of your care budget — for equipment and home changes that keep you safe and independent. You don't need to learn the rules; that's our job. Here's what it can do for you, in plain words.

Small items: no prescription neededAfter your assessment you're allocated a tier — separately for assistive technology and for home modifications. You may be funded for one, or both.

Equipment costing more than $15,000 is available where there's a prescribed need. Complex home-modification projects can be extended a further 12 months with evidence provided to Services Australia. Unspent AT-HM funding can't be carried past the funding period. Contributions for AT-HM items are charged at your independence rate; prescription and wrap-around services are $0. Official amounts as at 1 July 2026.
